Farangis Wall Light

A waisted brass column that opens out at the top and the bottom, so light escapes at both ends and washes the wall above and below it.

The body is pressed from sheet brass into two curves that meet at the middle, which narrows the fitting where it touches the wall and flares it where the light comes out. There is no glass and no diffuser, so what you get is a hard edged wash on the wall rather than a soft pool in the room, and the inside surface of the brass is what colours it. Polished brass throws a warmer light back than a painted interior would. Unlit it reads as a solid sculptural object rather than as a light fitting.

Where it works: down a hallway, either side of a living room fireplace, or above a bedroom headboard.
