Farangis Table Lamp

A tall column of clear crystal bored through its length, with bulbs standing inside it and a plain round brass base underneath.

This is the upright version of the crystal block idea. The column is bored with vertical channels, the bulbs drop into them, and the light works its way out through the polished faces so the whole block glows from the middle outwards. Because the flat sides reflect each other internally, the lamps repeat as you move around it and the number you appear to see changes with the angle. The base is a plain brass disc with a cable running off it, which makes it a lamp for a surface rather than a fixed fitting.

Where it works: on a hallway console, on a bedside table, or on a home office desk where a tall narrow light suits better than a shade.
