Manijeh Table Lamp

A hand cut crystal ball held in a slim brass frame against a clear flat panel, with the lamps sitting inside the ball so every facet lights separately.

The ball is ground into dozens of flat faces and polished, so it behaves like a cluster of small mirrors rather than a single shade. Lit from inside, each face picks up a different part of the lamp and the ball reads as a mass of small bright points instead of one glowing sphere. It is held low in a rectangular brass frame with a clear panel behind it, which lifts the ball off the base and throws its pattern onto whatever surface the lamp is standing on. The base is solid brass and a cable runs off the back.

Where it works: on a hallway console, on a bedside table, or on a living room sideboard as a decorative light rather than a reading one.
