Farid Pendant Light

A thick alabaster ring hung in leather straps, with the two ends curling past each other rather than meeting, so the circle stays open.

The ring is turned from solid alabaster and is heavy enough that the leather has to be doing real work, which is why the straps read as structural rather than decorative. The stone is cut thin enough at the underside to pass light, so the ring glows downward and along its own length while the top face stays matt and shows its veining. Where the two ends of the ring curl past each other there is a gap, and that gap is what keeps the shape from reading as a plain closed hoop.

Where it works: over a dining table, low in a living room, or in a hallway with the height to hang it properly.
