Three stepped tiers of fine jute cord wound over open metal frames, so the shade breaks the light into bands instead of one flat ring.

Jute cord is wound tightly around three wire drums of different diameters, then stacked with the widest in the middle so the profile steps out and back in again. The winding is close enough to read as a solid surface from across a room and open enough that the lamp shows through as a warm glow between the strands. Raw jute carries a faint silky shine, so light passing through it warms rather than cools. The shade hangs on a black textile cord from a matt black canopy, and the drop adjusts at installation.

Where it works: over a dining table, in a living room, or in a bedroom where a wide soft shade suits better than glass.
