Chabahar Wall Light

Three stepped half drums of wound jute cord mounted flat to the wall, throwing light up and down while the strands glow across the front.

The shade is jute cord wound over three curved metal frames of increasing width, stacked so each tier steps proudly of the one above it. Mounted on a wall it reads as a piece of texture rather than as a light fitting, and the open winding lets the lamp show through as fine vertical lines of light. Open top and bottom, it washes the wall above and below rather than lighting the room, which is what makes it work in pairs beside a bed. It is small and projects only a little, so it stays out of the way in a corridor.

Where it works: in pairs either side of a bed as a bedside light, along a hallway, or in a living room as a soft corner wash.

Read this before ordering: there is no plug, no cable and no switch. It needs a flush-mounted supply in the wall and an electrician to connect it.
