Three curved arms rise from a polished nickel stem and hold their candle lamps up inside a grey fabric drum, so the light source is hidden and the shade glows evenly.

The metalwork is the expensive looking part: a stepped round base, a slim column, and three arms that curve outward and then up, each ending in a candle holder. All of it is polished nickel plated steel, bright enough to catch a highlight from across the room. The shade is a straight drum in a charcoal grey fabric with a pale lining, open at the top and bottom, so light washes up the wall and down over the surface while the middle glows a soft grey. Three lamps rather than one means a wider, flatter spread with no hot spot in the fabric.

Where it works: on a living room sideboard, on a bedside table, or on a hallway console where the shade will not be looked into from above.
