A tight cluster of alabaster globes hung at different lengths from one canopy, packed close enough that the group reads as a single soft mass.

Every sphere is turned from alabaster and hung on its own fine cable at its own drop length, and because the cables are cut to different lengths the globes sit at several depths rather than in one flat layer. That is what gives the cluster its rounded underside and its depth from across a room. The stone passes light rather than reflecting it, so each globe lights from within and the overlaps read as soft shadow instead of hard edges. Unlit it is a pale mass of stone, which is a very different object from the lit version.

Where it works: over a dining room table, centred in a living room, or dropped into a stairwell where the cluster is seen from more than one level.

Stone globes are heavy. Get a weight figure from the supplier before anyone fixes it to a ceiling.
