Three stacked drums wound tightly in natural linen cord, so the light escapes in fine horizontal bands rather than through an open shade.

The shade is built as three woven tiers on a metal frame, a narrow drum on top, a wide band in the middle and a smaller drum below, each one wrapped in cord laid turn against turn. The winding is what does the work: light passes between the strands and through the gaps at the tier edges, so a lit fitting reads as a warm textured cylinder rather than a bright source. Unlit it holds its shape as a solid piece of texture, greige rather than white, which keeps it quiet against a pale ceiling.

Where it works: over a dining room table, in a living room corner, or in a bedroom where the softened light suits the room.
