Abadeh Flush Ceiling Light

A drum built from rolled linen flutes standing side by side, fixed flat to the ceiling so it works where a pendant would hang too low.

Each fluted panel is cream linen rolled into a half tube, and they are set around the frame so their curved faces catch the light at slightly different angles. That is what gives the shade its ribbed shadow line all the way round, and why it reads as a piece of joinery rather than a fabric shade. It is open at the base and closed above, so light goes down onto the room and the flutes themselves glow softly along their length. Mounted flush, it takes almost no headroom.

Where it works: in a bedroom, along a hallway or landing, and in any low ceiling room where a pendant is not an option.

This gives a gentle light. In a bedroom it is exactly right; as the only light in a hallway it may feel too weak on its own.
