Shirkuh Pendant Light

A drum built from rolled linen flutes standing shoulder to shoulder, so the shade reads as a ring of soft vertical ribs rather than a plain cylinder.

Each panel is a length of cream linen rolled into a half tube and fixed to the frame beside the next one, which is what gives the drum its scalloped edge and its run of vertical shadows. It is open at the top and the bottom, so light goes up towards the ceiling as well as down onto the table, and the flutes themselves glow along their length when it is lit. It is a modest size, better suited to a bedroom or a small table than to a long dining room. The flex is textile covered in the same cream.

Where it works: in a bedroom, over a small dining room table, or in a living room corner.

This gives a gentle light. Over a bedside or a two seat table it is right; as the only light in a room it will not be enough.
