Two drums of wound natural cord stacked one on the other, a narrow one above and a wider one below, so the light leaves in fine horizontal bands.

The shade is built as two woven tiers on a metal frame, each wrapped in cord laid turn against turn from top to bottom. Where the tiers overlap you get a shadow line all the way round, and because the winding is dense the fitting reads as a solid greige cylinder rather than an open shade. Light escapes between the strands and out of the open base, so what reaches the room is warm and heavily softened. It is a squat, substantial shape that suits being seen from below.

Where it works: in a bedroom, over a living room chair, or above a small dining room table.
