Bardaskan Wall Light

Five rolled linen flutes standing side by side against the wall, open at the top and the bottom so light washes up and down the plaster.

Each flute is a panel of cream linen rolled into a half tube and set beside the next, which gives the front face its run of soft vertical curves and its scalloped edges top and bottom. Nothing closes the ends, so the fitting throws two cones of light, one up the wall and one down it, and the flutes themselves glow along their length in between. It is a square face that stands slightly proud of the wall, so it reads as a panel rather than as a projecting bracket.

Where it works: as a bedside wall light in pairs, along a hallway or stairwell, or in a living room. Hardwired, so it belongs in a room already prepared for it.
