Karaj Table Lamp

A six sided column and a matching six sided shade, both wrapped in a cream cotton, so the whole lamp reads as one tapered geometric form rather than a base and a shade.

Fabric over the base as well as the shade is unusual, and it is what makes this work: there is no metal or ceramic break between the two halves, just a slim hexagonal column rising into a wider hexagonal shade with the same faces and the same textured cream weave. The corners catch light differently to the flat panels, so the form stays readable even when the lamp is off. Lit, the fabric glows warm and the seams at the corners show as fine bright lines. It stands on a compact footprint and is light enough to shift if the cable is pulled.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a living room side table, or on a console where a plain cylinder would look too ordinary.

A fabric covered base marks more easily than a hard one, so keep it away from wet glasses, and keep to a low output bulb rather than a bright one.
