Talar Table Lamp

A deep dome sitting over a tapering cone, both in the same matt light grey with a fine sandy texture, with a slim gap between them where the lamp sits.

The two halves are the same material and the same finish, so the lamp reads as one continuous mushroom form interrupted by a band of light rather than as a base with a shade on it. The surface is a matt textured coating over iron, closer to stone than to paint, which is why it stays quiet in a room full of gloss. The dome is fully opaque, so all the light escapes through the gap between the two parts: a horizontal band across the surface below and a soft halo on the wall behind. It stands on a wide, weighted base, which is what keeps a tall dome shape like this from tipping.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a hallway console, or on a living room side table where a band of low light is wanted rather than a reading lamp.
