Tahmures Floor Lamp

A slim cylinder shade cradled in four splayed metal prongs above a brushed gold stem. The cradle is the design and it stays visible whether the lamp is lit or not.

Four rods rise from the stem and curve outward like a calyx, and the shade sits inside them rather than on a harp, so the metalwork reads through the fabric when the lamp is on. The shade is a tall narrow cylinder in a natural linen effect fabric, which throws a column of light up and down instead of spreading it sideways. Every metal part is a brushed gold finish on steel, including the round disc base, and the lamp is heavy enough to stay where it is put. There is an in-line switch on the cable rather than a switch on the fitting.

Where it works: a living room beside a sofa or an armchair, or a dining room corner where a narrow shade will not crowd the table.
