A brushed gold stem that opens into slim arms to cradle a tall grey linen cylinder, so the shade appears to be held rather than sat on top of a fitting.

The stem is the detail worth paying for: a single round column that opens into a branched calyx of tapering arms, each one rising up the outside of the shade to hold it in place. It is a plated brushed gold rather than solid brass, warm and matt rather than mirror bright. The shade is a tall narrow cylinder in grey linen, which throws light up and down in two soft columns and glows amber through the fabric between them. It takes very little surface but still reads as a full sized lamp.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a living room side table, or on a hallway console where the narrow footprint matters.

Gold effect plating rather than solid brass, so keep cleaning to a dry cloth and it will hold its colour.
