Jamshid Floor Lamp

A slim sand coloured floor lamp with a ribbed teardrop shade hung off a curved iron stem, so the light falls beside a chair rather than over it.

The stem is a single iron tube that rises straight from a flat disc base, then turns through a tight curve at the top so the shade hangs from the end of it instead of sitting on top. The shade is where the design is: a teardrop built from vertical ribs with fabric stretched between them, wide at the shoulder and drawn in at the neck, which is what the supplier means by flower inspired. Light passes through the fabric and out between the ribs, so it is soft in every direction with a brighter pool underneath. The whole lamp stands tall on a compact base, and the cream finish runs across the stem, the base and the shade alike.

Where it works: beside a living room armchair, in a reading corner, or in a bedroom where a floor lamp has to stand in a narrow gap.
