A smoked mirror glass sphere on a small chrome foot, under a black tapered drum shade.

The sphere is glass with a metallic coating inside, so it works as a dark mirror: you see the room in it, softened and bent, with the tone shifting from near clear at the top to deep grey at the equator. Chrome collars top and bottom, and a slim chrome neck carries the shade. That shade is a plain tapered drum in black fabric, which keeps all the light going down and up rather than out through the sides, so the sphere below stays the thing you look at rather than the lamp itself. Off, it reads as an ornament. On, it puts a tight warm pool on the surface underneath.

Where it works: a living room side table, a bedroom chest of drawers, or a console where a dark reflective base has something to catch.

Fit a warm white LED bulb and it will sit well against the black shade.
