Barzin Table Lamp

A heavy glazed ceramic jar in a mottled green, under a wide linen cone shade that pushes the light out across the surface it stands on rather than up the wall.

The glaze is the whole point. It is a reactive green that pools darker where it has run and breaks to a sandy buff across the shoulders, so no two of these bodies come out of the kiln reading the same. The form is a squat jar with a rolled lip and a soft taper to the foot, heavy enough to keep a lamp this tall stable on an uneven surface. Above it the shade is a wide cone rather than a drum, unusually broad against the base and the reason it holds a corner on its own. The linen weave diffuses the light and throws most of it downwards. An in-line switch sits on the flex.

Where it works: on a living room side table, on a hallway console, or on a wide bedroom chest where a wide shade has room to breathe.

One thing to settle before ordering: the supplier gives a bulb count but no cap type, so the holder is unconfirmed and cannot be read off the photograph.
