A round alabaster face set off centre against a larger polished brass disc, so the stone appears to be rising past the metal like a moon behind a plate.

Two circles and an offset is the whole idea. The backplate is stainless steel finished in polished brass and mirrored enough to pick up the wall colour around it, and the alabaster disc sits proud of it and slightly low, which is what gives the fitting its off balance look. Lit, the stone face glows and the polished disc behind throws a soft ring of reflected light onto the wall around it. In daylight it reads as a hung object rather than a light, which is what the supplier is selling.

Where it works: on a hallway wall, above a bedside table, or as a pair in a living room.
