A cylinder of white glazed ceramic worked all over in a raised beaded diamond, under a natural linen drum shade. The texture is the whole point of it.

The base is a straight ceramic cylinder, glazed white and moulded with a raised lattice of small beads set into a diamond grid, so it holds shadow in the pattern and reads as texture rather than as a plain white shape. The glaze is soft rather than glossy, which keeps it away from looking like bathroom tile. Above it sits a tapered natural linen drum shade, which spreads the light evenly instead of pooling it on the surface below. The lamp stands tall enough to hold its own on a console or a deep bedside table without looking underscaled.

Where it works: a hallway console, a living room sideboard, or a bedside table with the depth to take a wide shade.
