A single opal glass sphere on a black flex, capped with a small brass plated disc where the cable meets the glass.

There is nothing to it beyond the sphere, which is the reason it works. Opal glass diffuses rather than transmits, so the whole surface lights evenly and you never see the lamp inside it or a bright patch where it sits. It is large enough to hold a dining table on its own and plain enough to hang in a row of three without the room becoming busy. The only detail is the brass plated cap over the top of the globe, and the black textile flex has an adjustable drop.

Where it works: over a dining table singly or in a row, in a bedroom as a hanging bedside light, or in a hallway.
