Five smoked glass globes on individual black cables, dropped at five different heights from one round ceiling plate, so the cluster reads as a single sculptural object.

Each globe is a hand-sized ball of smoked amber glass that hides the lamp inside until it is lit, then glows a warm honey colour rather than throwing a hard point of light. The five cables drop from a round black ceiling plate and are set at staggered lengths, which is what lets the cluster fill a vertical space instead of sitting flat against the ceiling. Metalwork is black throughout, so the eye reads the glass first, and the shift in drop length between globes reads as movement rather than a symmetrical row.

Where it works: over a dining room table, in a stairwell where the staggered drop can be seen from below, or above a hallway console.

Five glass globes on their own give a soft ambient glow, not task lighting. If this is the only fitting in the room, plan a lamp as well.
