Ten brass batons cross a wide brass ring at different angles, and each baton is tipped at both ends with an opal glass capsule, which is where the twenty lights come from.

The ring holds the shape and the batons break it. Each one crosses the band at its own angle, some sitting above it and some below, so from underneath the fitting reads as a scatter rather than as a wheel. Every baton carries a small opal capsule at each end, and because opal glass is white right through, each one lights as an even soft point instead of showing the lamp inside it. Suspension is on black cables from a round canopy. It is wide, and it needs a room that can take that width.

Where it works: over a large dining room table, centred in a living room, or dropped into a stairwell where the crossing batons are read from below.
