Semnan Lamp Shade

A woven rattan shade, a shallow dome with a wide wavy brim, hand shaped so no two edges fall in quite the same line.

The weave is open enough to let light through the rattan itself, so the shade glows amber round its whole circumference instead of only firing down through the middle. The brim ripples rather than sitting flat, which breaks the shadow it casts on a ceiling into a soft scalloped ring. It is light, so it hangs comfortably on a standard flex. Because the weave is open, the lamp inside is partly visible from below, so a low output LED reads better through the rattan than a bright incandescent would.

Where it works: over a kitchen island, above a dining table where the wavy brim is seen from below, or as a soft ceiling shade in a living room.
