A single solid glass teardrop on a black cable, with a burnished brass cap and an exposed lamp held inside the glass on a slim brass stem.

The glass is thick and clear rather than blown thin, so the base of the drop acts as a lens and concentrates a bright point of light onto whatever is underneath. The brass stem inside is visible through the glass and reads as part of the design, which is why the lamp you choose matters here more than it would under an opal shade. The cap and stem are solid brass with a burnished finish, and the cable is black fabric, so the drop appears to float rather than sit on a stem.

Where it works: hung low over a bedside table, in a row along a kitchen island, or grouped over a dining table.
