Lorestan Table Lamp

A high gloss sand dome sitting over a caramel brown column, in the mushroom shape that mid-century lamps made familiar and that has not stopped selling since.

Both parts are lacquered iron with a glazed, almost ceramic sheen, which is what separates this from the matt painted versions of the same idea. The dome is deep and fully opaque, so all the light is pushed down into a defined circle on the surface below rather than out into the room. The column is a plain tube in a warm caramel brown, set on a shallow disc foot in the same colour with a pale ring beneath it. It is heavy enough to stay exactly where it is put.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a hallway console, or on a living room side table where a pool of downward light is what is wanted.
