Two stacked tiers of chunky natural alabaster blocks set around a matt black ring, chain hung, with the light coming from inside the stone rather than through a shade.

Each block is cut from a single piece of alabaster and finished by hand, so the faces are slightly different from one another and no two chandeliers are identical. Set in two overlapping rows around a black metal ring, the blocks glow from within when the lamps are on, showing the cloudy grey veining that runs through the stone. The metalwork is deliberately plain and matt black so nothing competes with the material, and the chain suspension means the drop is set on site. It is a heavy fixture and the ceiling fixing matters.

Where it works: over a large dining room table, in a double height hallway, or hung into a stairwell where both tiers are visible from below.
