Zanbaq Wall Light

A plain round disc of natural alabaster held off the wall by a small brass bracket, so the lamp is hidden behind it and the light escapes around the edges.

There is no shade to speak of and no visible fitting: the stone is the shade. The disc sits proud of the wall on a short bracket, which leaves a gap all the way round for the light to come through, so what you see is a soft halo behind the stone and a warmer glow through the face of it. Alabaster is translucent at this thickness, and the grey and rust veining that runs through the piece only shows once the lamp is on. The bracket is brass and deliberately small.

Where it works: as a bedside pair, along a hallway, or in a living room where the light needs to be soft rather than useful.
