Saadi Pendant Light

Five shades hung at different lengths from one canopy, each made of two curved panels of rippled glass clipped to a brass cross fitting with the lamp visible between them.

The glass is not smooth. Each panel carries a heavy poured ripple that breaks up the light and keeps the lamp behind it from reading as a hard point, and because the two panels do not meet at the sides, light also escapes straight out of the gaps. The brass fittings are exposed by design, holding the panels like clips, so the construction is part of the look. The five drops hang on black cables cut to different lengths from a single canopy, which gives the cluster depth from below and from the side.

Where it works: over a kitchen island, above a dining table, or in a stairwell where the staggered drops can be seen from more than one level.
