Sam Table Lamp

A ribbed ceramic body, thrown as a wide barrel and wrapped in horizontal ridges, under a cream cone shade wide enough to light a whole corner.

The base is the piece of craft here. Horizontal ribs run the full height of a rounded barrel body, each one catching a line of light and dropping a shadow under it, so the surface reads as coiled rather than moulded. The glaze is a soft grey that darkens in the recesses and lightens along the ridges. Above it sits a wide cone shade in cream, a deliberately generous proportion against the base, and the reason it fills a corner rather than lighting a page. Light falls almost entirely downwards through the open mouth. It has an in-line switch on the flex.

Where it works: on a living room side table, on a bedroom chest of drawers, or on a hallway console with room either side of it.

Two things are missing from the supplier record and both matter: the lamp holder and the wattage ceiling. Confirm them before you order bulbs.
