An ellipse of wound natural jute cord hung from a matt black iron hook frame on a round weighted base.

The shade is fine natural cord wound tightly over a frame and drawn to a point on each side, so it reads as a flattened ellipse rather than a drum. The weave lets a soft grained glow out all the way round while the open bottom drops a clean pool of light onto the surface below, which is what makes it usable beside a bed. The frame is matt black iron, a single bent tube that rises from a round disc base and hooks over so the shade hangs free rather than sitting on a stem. The contrast of black metal against pale cord is the point of the design.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a living room side table where a small woven shade adds texture.
