Milad Floor Lamp

A tall turned column in white resin, spindled and ringed like a timber baluster, carrying a wide cream linen drum shade.

The column is cast rather than turned from wood, and the mould carries the same swelling and ring detail a lathe would give, so it reads as a traditional baluster from a metre away. The white finish is matt and slightly chalky, which keeps it quiet against a pale wall. A cream linen drum shade sits square on top and is open at both ends, so light washes the ceiling as well as the floor and the lamp lifts a corner instead of spotlighting it. It stands taller than most armchairs, which is what you want beside a reading seat.

Where it works: beside an armchair in a living room, in a reading corner next to a window seat, or filling a dim corner of a bedroom.
