Travertine is a limestone full of small natural voids, and this base leaves them open rather than filling them, so the column has a chalky, textured matt finish that catches side light. The colour sits between cream and pale beige and shifts across the piece. Above it, a shallow frosted glass dome with a flat top and rounded shoulders spreads the light down and out with no visible lamp inside. It has real heft on its stone base, which is what keeps a lamp this top-heavy stable on a surface. A toggle switch sits on the cable for on-off control.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a home office desk where the stone reads as a natural material against paper and wood.

Open pored stone marks more easily than sealed marble. Keep it off a wet worktop and wipe spills straight away.
