A flattened ellipse woven in natural rattan, banded through with green paper rope. Sold as a shade, so check what else you need before ordering it.

The form is a flattened ellipse, wide and shallow, built over an iron frame with flat rattan strips woven horizontally and green paper rope stitched through in bands, so the pattern alternates natural and green the whole way round. Light escapes between the strips as much as through the open bottom, which is what makes it cast a broken, textured glow instead of an even one. The supplier lists this as a shade, and it is not clear from the data whether a cord, holder and ceiling rose are included, so confirm what is in the box before ordering.

Where it works: over a dining room table, in a living room, or in a bedroom as a soft overhead where a hard shade would be too much.
