The same matt black dome and stem as the plain version, but on a round backplate carrying a brass toggle switch, so it can be turned off at the fitting.

The dome is spun metal, matt black inside and out, deep enough to keep the lamp out of the eyeline from the side and open at the base so the light goes down. What separates this from the plain model is the backplate: a brass toggle sits in a small square housing at the centre, with a second brass knob below it, so the light is switched at the wall rather than from a room switch. That makes it the sensible choice next to a bed, provided the fitting is mounted within reach.

Where it works: at a bedside where you want to switch the light without getting up, or over a reading corner chair.
