A tiered woven shade in natural rattan, stacked in three stepped bands, so the light drops onto a table while each band of the shade glows through the weave.

The cane is laid on the diagonal and crossed, which builds a close lattice with fine gaps rather than a loose basket, and the result is a shade that holds its shape without a visible frame. Lit, those gaps throw a fine freckled pattern onto the ceiling above while the stepped tiers give a fuller, more sculptural silhouette. The rattan is unstained, so it sits somewhere between honey and straw depending on the light in the room, and it warms up considerably once a lamp is behind it. It hangs on a plain black cord, which is a deliberate contrast and keeps the shade looking like it is floating.

Where it works: centred over a dining table, above a kitchen island, or low over a breakfast bar where the open base does the useful work.
