A long aluminium ribbon that twists once along its length, lit from the inside so the glowing edge turns with it and the gold outer face stays matt, 80cm from ceiling plate to the far end.

Flat bar lights are common. This one is cut and twisted so the illuminated face rolls from underneath to the side and back again, which means the light lands on the worktop in one place and on the ceiling in another. The body is aluminium finished in brushed gold, the emitting face is a diffuser rather than glass, and the whole thing hangs on two thin steel wires from a small rectangular ceiling plate. The outer face is a brushed gold, warm rather than brassy, and it catches the room light when the fitting is off. Off, it reads as a dark line across the ceiling. On, the twist is what you notice.

Where it works: along a kitchen island, over a long dining table, or above a desk in a home office where a single line of light suits the room better than a cluster.

What comes in the box is listed on every product page under What is included. Most fittings arrive without a bulb so you can choose the brightness and warmth yourself. Some carry an integrated LED instead, and a few items are a shade or a bulb on their own.
